Reconciling Sibling Relationships

Yet today there are no buttons being pushed; we are listening — even laughing — and know we have truly reconciled. We love each other unconditionally. We are recreating family.

Our long path to peace is apparently part of a new trend to reform adult sibling relationships, according to holistic educator Jo Ann Levitt, co-author of “Sibling Revelry: 8 Steps to Successful Adult Sibling Relationships.”

“There is a definite trend at midlife to heal relationships where there’s been some estrangement or difficulty,” says Levitt, a registered nurse who with her two siblings counsels businesses in conflict resolution. “The tasks that are appropriate for this age have more to do with an internal focus than image-making or money-making. I also think sibling reconciliation is part of a deeper spiritual trend: As we age, we begin to see how we can make a positive impact through relationships that are most important to us.”
